OUR PROJECT
The farm is located 15 km from the Ligurian Riviera, in the hinterland of Bordighera, in the municipality of Apricale, locality Foa , in the foothills of the Western Ligurian Alps .
The agricultural project was begun in 2010 with the purchase of the first farm of about three hectares. It was necessary to a drastically prune the 220 trees and clear the land around in order to recover the ancient olive 'cultivars taggiasca' , which had been abandoned for more than fifty years . In 2011, 100 young olive trees were planted that will go into production in 2014.
In the coming years we can increase production of extra virgin monocultivar taggiasca oil, thanks to the recent purchase of 200 trees below the peak of M.St. Michael, also in the locality of Foa. Olives harvested from these ancient trees are used for the production of our Foa Grand Cru oil , pressed in the month of November .
As well as olive production, the farm also began the production of seasonal vegetables, aromatic herbs of Mediterranean and the prickly artichoke from the Albenga area . All products are certified as being produced on land converted to organic farming by the certifying body ICEA .
The distance from the sea and located at an altitude of between 350 and 550 metres, makes Foa an area ideal for the production of high quality olive oil . The complexity of the ecosystem, traditional agricultural activity on the old stone terraces and lack of urbanization have preserved the ecological integrity of Foa . We consider the ancient terraces of dry stone walls as a heritage deserving to be preserved and the work to rejuvenate the olive trees, abandoned for decades, as well as the difficulty in cultivating this land, to be rewarded by the excellence of the products it offers.
